The First 90 Days
This book is a must have for any executive or manager in preparation to make sweeping change in a new position. Micheal Watkins provides a clear roadmap to carry out the strategy of change for new leaders which must be done fairly quickly. I’ve had this book in my library since its publication in 2003 and have used it on many occasions. I find it even helpful when engaging in a consultating arrangement as well in which the assigned company is looking for advice, but also weary of the advice in general.
Change cannot be implemented by leaders without the throughput of others. Your team, peers, stakeholders all must understand your position and trust your strategy. Learning the culture and understanding the insights of others at an accelerated pace is also crucial during the evaulation period.
The first 90 days of any new job, consulting engagement, relationship, etc is always important and must be taken seriously. Arm yourself with a new approach before your next new encounter; you’ll be glad you did.
