Virginia Tech Hokies massacre felt across the world
Today I have joined the world by wearing maroon and orange to mourn the slain and celebrate the living Hokies. In the summer of 1996 I became a Minority Aide on the campus of Michigan State University. As a student advocate and leader I became aware of all the dangers that plague college campuses. I assisted one student in particular report a stalker, one deal with being raped and one understand that she can leave her boyfriend that beat her consistently. I felt then that Universities need to be more attentive to the incidents that occur on college campuses and serve stiff penalties for offenses. The massacre against the Virgina Tech community is being felt throughout the world and the pain is especially deep at other institutions of higher learning.Â
As Universities continue to educate students across the world I can only hope that we preserve the unique experiences that each campus offers; I can only hope that Universities build and grow stronger from this experience.Â
To all that are mourning today for the fallen Hokies, may God bless you.
